How we calculate
Price per portion times people times nights gives the food cost, plus that provider's delivery charge.
These are starting prices from the providers' own sites, read on 17 August 2026. First-box discounts are excluded - they apply once, the ongoing price is what you pay.
Starting per-portion prices usually apply to the largest box, so at a smaller household the real per-portion price is higher. Mindful Chef's delivery fee is waived automatically once the food total reaches 49 pounds, and the calculator applies that.

What the numbers do and do not include
The weekly figure is the provider’s cheapest published route to that many portions: the advertised starting per-portion price times portions, plus the standard delivery fee. It excludes welcome discounts, which are temporary by design, and it excludes the pricier recipes every menu carries. HelloFresh, for example, starts at £3.75 but real-world picks run up to about £8.25 a portion, as we document in our HelloFresh review.
Greyed-out rows are honesty, not errors: not every provider sells every configuration. HelloFresh has no 1-person box and its plan picker currently offers 3 to 5 recipes a week, Green Chef boxes serve 2 or 4, Riverford serves 2 to 4, and Mindful Chef sells 1-, 2- and 4-person boxes with 1 to 4 recipes. Box sizes were verified on the providers’ own sites on 17 August 2026 for our HelloFresh for one person piece.
